The information below covers some of the common beetle problems such as carpet beetles, flour beetles, deathwatch beetles and biscuit beetles. For more information on all types of beetle pest control for businesses and households please contact us.
CARPET BEETLES
The carpet beetle is prevalent throughout the year in the UK. By coming into your home or business premises the presence of their larvae can result in wooden floor or carpet infestations. They also infest and feed on furniture and clothing. Typically they spread from birds nests into their preferred warm environments, through the eaves in roof spaces. This can lead to infestations in lofts and bedrooms.
CARPET BEETLE IDENTIFICATION
Carpet beetle larvae are brown and hairy in appearance and grow to around 4-5mm in length. Adults have patterned black and white scales on the body. Generally, adult carpet beetles appear between April and June.
What you may have believed to be house beetles seen in late summer or autumn could possibly be the female carpet beetle. Generally they enter houses at this time, after mating, often laying their eggs in roof spaces so their life cycle starts again in your home. Safeguard are experienced in treating these pest infestations.
HOW TO GET RID OF CARPET BEETLE INFESTATIONS
Carpet beetles fully developed larvae appear to be resistant to many modern insecticides. Therefore a thorough, skilled and repeated approach is necessary to eradicate the problem. Our skilled pest control technicians will be able to advise you on how to protect clothing and soft furnishings in areas that are as yet unaffected by carpet beetle infestations whilst the problem is brought under control. Our technicians then use pest control substances which have low toxicity to humans and pests but are able to treat infestations over a period of 3 to 10 days.
Treatments can be effective for up to a year. This may involve the injecting of powder into cracks and crevices, which is ingested by the carpet beetles. If appropriate, solutions can also involve removing the source of the problem and exposing it to extreme heat or freezing. If untreated, carpet beetles are resilient pests and collectively every year they cause damage to natural fibres in homes and major businesses which runs into millions of pounds worldwide. Deathwatch Beetles
The deathwatch beetle is dark red/brown in colour and their eggs are generally laid in cracks and crevices in wood surfaces. In homes and business premises the insect lives in oak timbers and hardwood. The larvae of the deathwatch beetle can be particularly harmful to your premises, as they tunnel in wood, often for many years.
Specialist treatment is required for these pests. Please call us on 0800 328 4931 for specialist advice.
FLOUR BEETLES
Food processing plants and grain distribution points often depend on their own employees to create a strategy to manage their pest control. However, this often distracts them from their core business and can jeopardise success in a business-critical area such as the storage of flour, grains and cereals.
Flour beetles can also be found in the household and can grow to large infestations living off food in furniture, cracks and crevices in cupboards etc. If you need help in getting rid of beetles, their larvae or you are opening a business where this is causing concern then please get in touch for an initial free consultation.
If you are dissatisfied with your businesses current success rate with in-house pest control management of beetles, flies or any other pests then please contact us on 0800 328 4931 or contact us.
BISCUIT BEETLES
Biscuit beetles can affect food processing and storage businesses, food preparation businesses which need to store foods and also households. The biscuit beetle can get into any packaged foods being stored which are not completely sealed and tend to favour cereals, grains and other stored food products.
Adult larvae will bore their way through packaging or food to emerge. If you feel a packaged product may be infested with biscuit beetle larvae it should be wrapped in heavy plastic and thrown away, in a suitable facility outside of your premises.
Calling Safeguard will leave you comfortable in the knowledge that our trained pest controllers can deal with the problem quickly and efficiently. We can also carry out a check for beetle infestation and give advice on what to do with all surrounding food containers, surfaces and cupboards.
Our post-infestation cleaning services can provide deep cleaning following the implementation of effective pest control treatments, restoring both hygienic food storage conditions and peace of mind.
